Queenstown is a beautiful tourist mecca, it is also however a very small town. With 20,000 residents and up to 51,000 tourists coming and going on a daily basis, finding a parking space in and around Queenstown can be tricky to say the least. This is especially so during usual business hours between 9-5pm. There are several paid parking options directly in the town, these are usually extremely busy whatever time of day.
The price of the council and Wilson operated car parks here in town range from between $2.00 per hour in fringe areas – that are about 5-10 minutes walk into town. Up to $6.00 per hour for those parks in the centre of town. Car parking is typically charged between 8am and 6pm, and free outside of those hours.
There is also a limited amount of free, residential street parking around the town. Again, it can be difficult to find spaces during typical working hours – when Queenstowns locals commute to and from their workplaces. Queenstown is a very safe area in general and vehicle burglaries are extremely rare. But, for peace of mind, Wilson operate several monitored car parks in town which are have more security than your general off-street parking.
If you are staying at either of our Queenstown hostels, we would recommend firstly using the two quick drop off areas outside either hostel to drop your luggage and check-in before heading out to park your vehicle. At Adventure Queenstown Hostel, there’s a loading bay right outside our entrance which is fine to drop your luggage and head off. Over at Adventure Q2, there is 15 minute free parking directly outside our entrance there.
Please note, that as of 2023 there are major roadworks throughout the town that will eventially increase traffic flow. Through 2023-24 several of these parking options may be impacted.
