10 Cheap Eats in Queenstown
Beyond the adventure activities, Queenstown is well known as a world class resort for great food and legendary nightlife. The town over has 150 bars, restaurants and cafés and there really is something for everyone, all dietary requirements and budgets. Our staff all have their favorite spots, but we can all agree on these top picks.
1. Fergburger
Fergburger might be the most popular burger joint in the southern hemisphere. You’ll have already seen it on every Queenstown ‘must-do’ list, and for good reason. They have a massive range of meat, plant, cheese and tofu patty burgers to choose from, and they’re open from 8am to midnight! It’s a great value feed between $15-25. The queue can be off-putting but it’s well worth the wait.
2. Bespoke Kitchen
Bespoke is a really nice cafe to chill, just a few minutes walk out of the downtown area. The cafe is beautifully decorated with a lovely green, cosy vibe, and a carefully crafted menu that speaks to responsible health and wellbeing. Plenty of choice for vegans and vegetarians and a focus on fresh, local ingredients.
3. Ferg Baker
There’s one real choice in town for a decent pie, baked pastries or sweet treats – and it’s next door to Fergburger. Open from early until late Fergbaker is another massively popular grab and go option in town. There aren’t many vegan options here unfortunately – for those you want to head to Bespoke. Ferg’s delicious pies start from $7.60 with other baked goodies for less.
4. Sushi Box
Sushi Box offers an authentic Japanese experience. It’s quirky little setup in Oconnells mall looks rather unassuming, but the food here is the real deal. Great priced sushi and japanese curry is available all day through to 6pm. The service is wonderfully and typically Japanese plenty of smiles and thanks. They have 50% off on their sushi between 5-6pm so get down there and bag a bargain.
5. Latin Caribe Kitchen
Caribe Latin Kitchen (yes you guessed it – south american cuisine) is one of the smaller restaurants in Queenstown but for for a small restaurant, they have an extensive menu. Think tapas, burritos, tacos, quesadillas, arepas and more. Most items on their menu can be made vegan by request. Most seating here is outdoor, so it’s more of a grab and go option. A Large Burrito will set you back $16.40
6. Cookie Time
Delicious fresh HOT COOKIES and cookie-inspired creations are what the Cookie Bar is all about. Giant Freak shakes, cookies and cream ice cream, flavoured hot chocolates & s’mores! Every day between 6pm-7pm you can get two cookies for the price of one.
7. World Bar
Our Favourite hang out spot after midday. This pub, come bar, come club, come venue has it all. Great beers, good vibes, decent gigs and events, a silent disco every Wednesday Night, pop-up Half Pipe skate events and delicious food everyday. Their Beer and a Burger deal for $25 slaps everyday.
8. Bombay Palace – Wednesday Curry Night
Queenstown’s favourite Indian and south east asian restaurant, Bombay Palace hosts Curry Night every Wednesday evening. Delicious curry, served with satisfyingly fluffy rice and priced at only $18.00. Collection/takeway or sit in dining experience is available.
9. Yonder Thursdays
Yonder is one of the towns more popular brunch spots, but at night they transform into a sweet hang out bar, often hosting international DJs and acts. Every Thursday is their Beats and Bao night, and you can bag a decent sized Bao bun with various fillings for just $6. Yonder and it’s sister World Bar also have great discounts available with their loyalty card which is well worth signing up for, and free.
Also Yonder’s daily coffee happy hour is between 8-9am – half price coffees!

Special mention: First Table & Book Me
If you haven’t already heard of First Table, you should get acquainted with it, in the place that it was born. First Table started right here in Queenstown back in 2014. It offers diners the ability to book a restaurants earliest (or sometimes latest) tables which are usually around 5pm, with 50% discount on the total bill at the end of the meal (drinks excluded). It’s a great option to dine with friends at a place you might not otherwise be able to afford. Tables are limited per restaurant and new reservation slots become available each night at 9pm.
