Parking in Queenstown

Queenstown is a very small town – with a population of just 30,000 this boons by tens of thousands of tourists and cars over our peak seasons. The lack of parking (paid or free) within our small town is a well known issue.
There is a limited amount of free, residential street parking around the township and the surrounding streets within a 5-15 minute walk of the town centre. Our handy map (attached) gives a general idea on where the unrestricted parking locations are.
It can be difficult to find spaces during typical working hours – when Queenstowns locals commute to and from their workplaces. Between 8am and 5pm it can be difficult to find any parking space in the main town centre area – paid or otherwise.

For overnight stays, Queenstown is generally considered to be a very safe area and overnight vehicle burglaries are extremely rare. But, for peace of mind, Wilson operate several monitored car parks in town which are have more security than your general off-street parking.

As of May 2025, two popular parking locations – on the lake side around Park Street and the Lake Esplanade have been designated as restricted parking between 10pm-6am. Meaning any cars parked there overnight will be ticketed.

Planning on staying at either of our Queenstown locations?

We would recommend firstly using the two quick drop off areas outside either hostel to drop your luggage and check-in before heading out to park your vehicle.
At Adventure Queenstown Hostel, there’s a loading bay right outside our entrance, stick your indicator lights on and you’ll be fine for up to 10 minutes while you drop your luggage and head off.
Over at Adventure Q2, there are six 15 minute free parking bays directly outside our entrance there.
