This part time, work for accommodation role will see you assist our team primarily in a Housekeeping focus with an emphasis on daily and weekly & monthly deep cleans. This role is live-in only and great quality, discounted accommodation is provided as part of any team member role with Adventure Hostels. It’s a really fun, flexible part-time role that leaves you open to explore, ski, hike and bike more. Or, to compliment another primary job, with your accommodation already covered. 

The position is 13 hours per week with the option of a few additional hours (up to 16) this is typically split between a 2 or 3-day working week.

Your home
Urbanz is our little work-in-progress. Super centrally located on Manchester St and just minutes walk from the city centre. It’s a decent sized social hostel where you’ll make good mates, travel buddies and people temporarily basing themselves in the Christchurch area. We’ve just opened a brand spanking new Kitchen and Bathroom setup, with much more investment and change happening over the coming months – long story short –  it’s an exciting place to be right now. As a live-in Team Member, your accommodation costs are covered by those 13 working hours per week. You’ll be staying in one of our two 4-bed staff dorms with three of your compadres and colleagues. Wifi and laundry are included.

You’ll also hold the right to work within New Zealand and will likely have previous working experience within hostels, hotels or hospo. Lastly, you’re willing to commit to at least 6+ weeks withs with us.

 The nitty gritty

• The role encompasses all hostel related housekeeping-centric tasks such as turning over beds, cleaning bathrooms and communal spaces, emptying bins and cleaning our kitchen and vacuuming
• You’ll need to provide a great customer experience for all of our guests. Be attentive, social, and generally add positive enthusiasm to the overall atmosphere when not engaged with other duties.
•  Performing of housekeeping duties, which will include:
  – Changing of beds on check-out
  – Deep cleans of specific areas of the hostel
  – Daily kitchen & bathroom cleans
  – Vacuum and mopping of communal spaces
  – Washing of all linens using provided washing machines and dryers
• You also be responsible for running one of our house-run evening activities per week between 9-10pm, as well as one kitchen close in the evenings – where you will clean the kitchen and ask guests to vacate and lock the door at 11pm. 
• Completing any additional tasks given to you by your line Manager, these additional tasks will likely include light maintenance tasks such as painting, deep cleans, providing inventories or landscaping in the hostel grounds etc. 
• Always try to maintain professional attitude when inside the Hostel, urging Guests to follow the rules and to not encourage any behaviours deemed to be unwanted within the hostel. This also means reporting any discovered illicit activities or behaviours of Guests or Staff to Management immediately. Adventure Hostels do not condone or tolerate the use or storage of drugs on-site.
