Transport guide

Bus Service (operated by NZ Ski)

Return, pre-booked tickets only. Priced at $30.00

The NZ-operated bus service collects passengers with pre-booked bus passes from The Station building on Duke Street. Both our two Queenstown hostels are less than a 2 minute’s walk to The Station. Queueing for the buses starts around the back of the building – on Duke Street and is clearly signposted.

There are 720 bus spots available per day, scheduled every 30 minutes from 7:30am to 11:00am. No buses run to the fields after 11am, unless you are heading to Coronet Peak for Night Ski (Buses depart again from 3pm)

Tickets for the bus include return Ski Bus transport to and/or from Coronet Peak or The Remarkables Ski Areas in Queenstown. Return transport (both trips) must be used on the same day.

If you purchase your Ski Bus pass online, please make sure you collect your MyPass Card before you jump on your bus to the mountains. These are available from Guest Services at the Snow Centre, located at 9 Duke St.

The 2022 season was not great for users of the NZ-Ski bus service. For Pass users, services were infrequent, and there simply weren’t enough drivers available. This caused long queues and plenty of disappointment. NZ Ski have therefore modified how they operate the bus service in town – operating single use tickets as opposed to a ‘season bus pass’.

  • All passengers are required to reserve a departure date, timeslot and what mountain they are going to when purchasing a Ski Bus pass.
  • You do not need to book a return time slot. Though you should note that the later that you leave the mountain, the more traffic you will encounter. It’s not unheard of to take 2+ hours to get back to town in peak time traffic.
  • You must be at your bus stop at the correct time, for example, if you are booked into 7.30-8.00 pickup, you must be there by 7.30, not 8am.
  • If you have a reserved Snowsports lesson, they encourage you to use the earliest available timeslots (7.30 am) to give you enough time to make your lesson stress free.
  • Ski Bus passes must be allocated to the guest who intends to use them. Multiple passes purchased for one guest cannot be used for other guests.
  • Passes may still be booked and collected on the same day IF there is availability, this is unlikely however and we’d highly recommend booking in advance to avoid disapointment.
  • In the event the mountain is closed then your bus pass will be rolled over to another date of your choosing (subject to availability) or you’ll be offered a refund.

Taxi

One-way approximately $90+ potentially more in peak times

Taxi would be the ideal choice for groups of 3-6 persons. The local cab operator – Queentown Taxi operate a fleet or cars or minivans that are suitable to get up and down the mountain. Please inform them what equipment you have, as if you are travelling to and from the mountain with gear then you’ll need to take a minivan. Taxi’s will run on meters here, so please ask them for a specific price before booking travel to the mountain.
