Welcome to AW!
Adventure Wanaka (AW) is a small-medium sized hostel with a maximum capacity of about 70 people – which we think is the perfect number for a fun and vibrant atmopshere, yet retaining that that small intimate, familial vibe that mature travellers love. AW is the most centrally located accommodation in town, you are just moments from Wānaka town centre. At night we guarantee you’ll sleep soundly,as there are no bars directly by us.
Our spacious and well designed rooms feature custom made hand-built timber bunks that sport ultra comfortable innerspring mattresses. You’ll have the luxury of two pillows with freshly laundered linen all made up and are ready to hop straight into. Each bunk also includes USB charging ports & electrical outlets, a reading light, ample shelving, a secure under-bed storage locker and privacy curtains. Our rooms also include A/C, heat pump, free high-speed wifi and towels are included as standard!
AW’s outdoor spaces are the best in town, with a grand courtyard and two deck areas. AW is a great place to enjoy a drink in the sun. The guest lounge, chill out room and dining areas are super spacious for such a small hostel. This allows plenty of room for guests to chill out, work nomadically or meet new friends. In our kitchen, you’ll be cooking up a feast where you’ll find it superbly equipped featuring everything from crockpot’s and crockery to salad knives and spices!
Our wonderfully friendly staff, whom all live on-site with our Guests, can help you plan your activities and time in Wānaka. We have locker rooms, luggage storage and secure bicycle parking and ski & snowboard storage. AW also offers loads of free stuff, and even a simple laundry service. Operated by a well-travelled owner, we draw on experience. We’ve cultivated and collated the best ideas from hostels across dozens of different countries, and put them all into this one place amazing place!

our people

your hosts

Jeanne

Jeanne is our Hostel Honcho at Wanaka, and leader of the pack. She's a pseudo-Frenchie, and most definitely more English than French, she has the patience of a saint and has put long hours and days into helping Adventure Wanaka become a reality. Jeanne has already been there, seen and done her New Zealand adventure. So if you're fresh of the boat (or plane) and clueless - hit her up for some expert advice.

Annika

Annika

Annie or Annika might aswell be on our hostel facilities list, she's practically part of the furniture having been with us since 2021 (nearly two years!). Annie is renowned for being the hostel mum, baking, sewing and (in winter) snowboarding. She also enjoys the quiet and crocheting. She hates locally made kiwi-style bread and when guests flood our bathrooms! If you're lucky enough to have booked our private room at Adventure Wanaka it's named after Annie!

Gyasi Q

Gyasi might be the most interesting character to grace our hostels in a long while, he has plenty of stories that just roll off his tongue. He enjoys singing Scottish shanties, deep and meaningfulls and sharing his love of food - Just make sure he's not bunked up next to you overnight! Gyasi hails from the United States but don't hold that against him, he's as cool as a cucumber and has already lived and worked all over the world.

If you are arriving from the airport… Take the Ritchie bus service which runs twice daily, costing $30. The journey is via the Crown Range and will take approximately 1.5hrs. You must book this service in advance.

If you arrive by car… Due to our central location we unfortunately do not have private parking options, however there is limited roadside parking available on Helwick Street, right next to the hostel.

If you arrive by bus… The Intercity service and Ritchie shuttle services will drop off you off at the public toilets by the lakefront. Walk into town and walk along Helwick Street for two minutes until you reach the junction of Brownston Street and Helwick Street.
